Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Wildlife Monitor to join our team. This role will involve escorting crews into the backcountry of BC providing lethal and non lethal protection from wildlife. Training will be provided in house and backcountry experience will be an asset.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct thorough risk assessments and tailgate meetings prior to entering the backcountry area.
Prepare detailed inspection reports and documentation outlining findings, and crew status.
Be physically fit and able to traverse backcountry environments in various weather conditions.
Collaborate with project managers, crew leads and other stakeholders to develop and implement the wildlife monitoring program.
Possess a CORE Training, Possession Acquisition License, Drivers license, and bear awareness training.
Provide guidance and training to crews teams on wildlife procedures and risk aversion.
Identify potential wildlife and environmental risks and communicate to crews.
Be comfortable operating a truck/trailer, shotgun, and UTV throughout the shift.•Maintain a professional attitude at all times.
Qualifications:
Must hold a Drivers License and Possession Acquisition License.
Backcountry experience working around wildlife.
Ideally 3-5 years of experience in wildlife monitoring is an asset
Strong knowledge of bear and predatory wildlife awareness.
Proven experience in operating and handling a firearm.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a backcountry work environment.
Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software for reporting and analysis.
Ability to travel to field sites as needed.
